Come From Away Wins Three Dora Awards, Including Best New Musical

Come From Away emerged victorious at last night's 2017 Dora Awards, taking home three awards.

The Toronto awards honored Irene Sankoff and David Hein's musical with accolades including Outstanding New Musical/Opera; Outstanding Production – Musical Theatre Division; and Outstanding Performance in a Musical – Female for Jenn Colella. It also picked up the 2017 Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award.

Featuring a book, music, and lyrics by Sankoff and Hein, Come From Away is directed by Tony winner Christopher Ashley and choreographed by Kelly Devine. Set against the backdrop of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the show follows what happens when 38 planes and 6,579 passengers are forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of "one small town on the edge of the world."

The cast features Colella, Chad Kimball, Kendra Kassebaum, Geno Carr, Joel Hatch, Rodney Hicks, Lee MacDougall, Caesar Samayoa, Q. Smith, Sharon Wheatley, Astrid Van Wieren, Petrina Bromley, Josh Breckenridge, Susan Dunstan, Tamika Lawrence, and Tony LePage.
