The Toronto production of six-time Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots, which runs at the Royal Alexandria Theatre, took home three awards at last night's 2016 Dora Awards.

The Toronto awards honored Kinky Boots with accolades including Outstanding Production; Outstanding Performance – Male for Alan Mingo Jr., who is now playing Lola on Broadway; and Outstanding Choreography for Jerry Mitchell.

Inspired by the 2005 British film of the same title, Kinky Boots features a Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein. The musical tells the story of Charlie Price, the owner of a failing shoe factory who realizes that a sassy drag queen named Lola has the key to the business' success. The Broadway production of Kinky Boots plays at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, where it is now in its fourth year.

In addition to the Broadway, West End, and Toronto productions of Kinky Boots, the show is currently touring the country on its First National Tour. A Japanese production is set to open this July, and an Australian production is set to open in October 2016 at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne.
