I Hope I Get It: Stories From the Audition Room With Janet McTeer
How the Tony-winning actress and Shakespeare's most famous ingénue became star-crossed lovers.
There aren't many limits on Janet McTeer's range as an actress. She's taken on Henrik Ibsen's Nora in A Doll's House (to Tony-winning acclaim), played the title role in Friedrich Schiller's Mary Stuart, and now stars as the seductive Marquise de Merteuil in Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Shakespeare's Juliet, however, brought McTeer to her breaking point during a drama school audition gone awry. People apparently aren't in the market for a young Capulet the size of a pro basketball player. Go figure.
