Kinky Boots Team Introduces Us to Life as a Stage Manager

What is it like to run the Cyndi Lauper-Harvey Fierstein musical backstage? Cast member Taylor Louderman lets us know how vital stage managers really are.

The jobs of stage managers are varied. Most Broadway shows have several stage managers, each of whom have different duties. One is assigned to make sure that all of the problems backstage and onstage get fixed. Another "calls" each performance, which involves announcing the lighting, sound, and stage cues to board operators from an offstage perch. It's a daunting task, one that takes skill and dedication. During a recent Wednesday matinee, the team from Kinky Boots at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre walked TheaterMania through their day for a bird's eye view at a job few audience members get to see.
