Freaky Friday, a new musical from Next to Normal and If/Then scribes Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, will see its world premiere production at Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia. The show will run from October 4-November 13.

With a book by Bridget Carpenter (a writer for TV's Friday Night Lights and Parenthood), Freaky Friday is inspired by the 1972 novel of the same title by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films from 1976 (which starred Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster) and 2003 (which starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan). Christopher Ashley will direct, with Sergio Trujillo serving as choreographer.

The show is described as follows: "When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again before mom’s big wedding. Freaky Friday, a new musical comedy based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and hit Disney films, is a hilarious, contemporary update of an American classic in which a mother and daughter really see what it is to be a family and experience first-hand each other’s lives, if only for a day."

Casting and additional information about the production will be revealed in the coming months. The show is developed by Disney Theatrical Productions expressly for licensing to theaters.
