Arena Stage Picks Patty Rangel as Next Artist in Residence

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announced its artist in residence for the 2017-18 season: Patty Rangel, a mixed-reality artist, holographer, producer, and experience designer specializing in exponential technologies.
A graduate of NASA's Singularity University and the California Institute of the Arts Theater Producing M.F.A. program, Rangel has focused on virtual, augmented, and mixed reality for defense, aerospace, medicine, and educational applications within the technology sector, working with clients ranging from the United Nations and ESPN to the Vancouver Olympic Games and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. She is known for creating a Tupac hologram that appeared at the 2012 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Rangel will focus her yearlong residency on researching and testing the viability of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality and simulation-based learning applications in Arena Stage’s artistic processes, communications, and live performance.
Ayad Akhtar (Disgraced), Katori Hall (Hurt Village), and Lisa Kron (Fun Home) have all been previous Arena Stage resident artists.
