Paapa Essiedu to Bring RSC's Hamlet to the Kennedy Center

Essiedu stars in the title role of Simon Godwin’s production.

The Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Hamlet, starring Paapa Essiedu, will make its North American debut at The Kennedy Center, running May 2-6, 2018. Simon Godwin directs the production.

Hamlet at the Kennedy Center will mark Essiedu's American debut. He received the U.K. Theatre Award and the Ian Charleson Award for the RSC's 2016 production of the drama in Stratford-upon-Avon. Before its Kennedy Center engagement, Hamlet will run at London's Hackney Empire.

Full casting for the production will be announced at a later date. Hamlet is designed by Paul Wills with lighting by Paul Anderson. Music for the production is composed by Jamiroquai percussionist Sola Akingbola. Sound is by Christopher Shutt.
