Squibb will take on a newly renamed role in the musical.
Oscar nominee June Squibb (Nebraska) will join the cast of Broadway's Waitress for a run November 19-January 6. Squibb will take on the newly renamed role of Josie, the owner of the pie diner. The role, originally called Joe, was originated by Dakin Matthews and is currently played by Al Roker.
Squibb will star opposite Nicolette Robinson, who has extended her run in the musical through December 9. Inspired by Adrienne Shelly's 2007 motion picture, Waitress features music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, a book by Jessie Nelson, and direction by Diane Paulus.
The production opened April 24, 2016, at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, and earned four Tony nominations.
Waitress also features NaTasha Yvette Williams, Lenne Klingaman, Drew Gehling, Ben Thompson, Benny Elledge, Alex Wyse, Mariam Bedigian,Tyrone Davis, Jr., Law Terrell Dunford, Andrew Fitch, London Skye Gilliam, Molly Hager, Tiffany Denise Hobbs, Jessie Hooker-Bailey, Molly Jobe, Brandon Kalm, Anastacia McCleskey, Stephanie Torns, and Dan Tracy.
