The Broadway veteran stars alongside Whitney Bashor in the production at Chicago’s Drury Lane Theatre.
Broadway vets Shoshana Bean (Wicked) and Whitney Bashor (The Bridges of Madison County) are currently starring as Cee Cee and Bertie, respectively, in the Chicago mounting of the new musical Beaches. Billed as a pre-Broadway run, the show plays the Drury Lane Theatre until August 16.
The story is perhaps best known from its 1988 film adaptation, which starred Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey. The musical version premiered in 2014 at Signature Theatre in Virginia with Alysha Umphress (On the Town) as Cee Cee and Mara Davi (Dames at Sea) as Bertie.
Bean recently released a dressing-room performance video featuring her rendition of "Wind Beneath My Wings," the song that was given an indelible mark by Midler in the film. Watch below to hear Bean's delicate, riffy rendition of the moving tune.
