Groovelily’s holiday concert-theater piece Striking 12 will run December 2-13 at Arena Stage’s home in Crystal City.
The show, which features a book co-written by Rachel Sheinkin, is a contemporary reworking of Hans Christian Andersen’s story, The Little Match Girl. The production features Groovelily band members Valeria Vigoda, Brendan Milburn, and Gene Lewin.
Arena’s previously announced season will also include The Quality of Life (Crystal City, September 11-October 18), featuring Johanna Day and Annette O’Toole; Amanda Denhart’s revival of The Fantasticks (Lincoln Theatre November 20-January 3), featuring book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt; Kenny Leon’s production of Lydia R. Diamond’s Stick Fly (Crystal City, January 1-February 7); The Light in the Piazza, with music and lyrics by Adam Guettel and book by Craig Lucas (Crystal City March 5-April 25); and D.W. Jacobs’ R. Buckminster Fuller: The History (and Mystery) of the Universe (Crystal City, May 28-July 4).
