Tony Award nominee Sam Mendes and actress Kate Winslet are ending their marriage after almost seven years together, according to published reports. The news of the separation has come via a statement from the couple’s attorney who states that the split is “entirely amicable.”
Mendes received a Tony Award nomination for his direction of the revival of Cabaret. His productions of As You Like It and The Tempest, part of The Bridge Project, recently played the Brooklyn Academy of Music and will be seen at the Old Vic later this year. Mendes won an Academy Award for his direction of American Beauty.
Winslet won an Academy Award for her performance in The Reader and received Oscar nominations for Little Children, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Iris, Titanic, and Sense and Sensibility.
The couple, who wed in 2003, have a six-year-old son, and Winslet also has a nine-year-old daughter from her previous marriage to Jim Threapleton. Mendes directed Winslet’s Golden Globe-winning performance in 2008’s Revolutionary Road.
