Four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein will replace Topol for the Toronto engagement of the North American tour of Fiddler on the Roof. Fierstein is stepping into the role of Tevye following Topol’s announcement that he would need to leave the production due to a shoulder injury requiring emergency long-term treatment. Fiddler is scheduled to play Toronto’s Canon Theatre from December 8 to January 10.
The Joseph Stein-Sheldon Harnick-Jerry Bock musical has been directed by Sammy Dallas Bayes, recreating the original direction and choreography by Jerome Robbins.
