The Lower Manhattan “tkts” ticket booth, which was temporarily moved to a trailer at Bowling Green Park Plaza after its previous home was destroyed in the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, will soon take up residence at the South Street Seaport.
The temporary booth in Bowling Green Park closed on June 26, and tkts will set up shop in yet another temporary home at the Seaport’s Pier 17 sometime in July while construction on its new permanent structure is finished. The opening of the permanent booth, which is to be located at John and Front Street in the Seaport, will take place in August.
The Theatre Development Fund’s Lower Manhattan tkts booth opened in 1974, one year after the opening of the first such booth in the Broadway theater district, making it easier for downtown NYC residents, tourists, and those who work in the area to purchase half-price tickets for Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. The South Street Seaport Ticket Booth will be open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 6pm, and Sundays from 11am to 3:30pm. Please note that matinee tickets must be purchased a day in advance at this location, and that cash and traveler’s checks only are accepted by tkts.
