Otto Schenk’s staging of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale will be broadcast on PBS’ Great Performances at the Met, on Wednesday, January 5 at 9pm (ET/check local listings). James Levine will conduct the opera, which will be directed for television by Gary Halvorson and hosted by Susan Graham.
The romantic comedy centers on an old man and his nephew and the young widow whom they both are hoping to marry. The company features Anna Netrebko as Norina, Matthew Polenzani as Ernesto, Mariusz Kwiecien as Dr. Malatesta, and John Del Carlo in the title role.
The creative team includes Rolf Langenfass (scenic and costume design) and Duane Schuler (lighting design).
