Several years since closing the movie rights for the iconic Frank Loesser, Jo Swerling, and Abe Burrows musical Guys and Dolls, 20th Century Fox is moving forward with plans for a remake of the 1955 film, according to Deadline.

Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon Levitt were originally rumored to be eyeing the roles of Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson made famous in the film by Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando. Russell Crowe, Vin Diesel, and Hugh Jackman, among other Hollywood stars, also expressed interest in taking on the lead characters. Casting for the upcoming remake has yet to be announced.

Michael Grandage, who helmed a West End production of Guys and Dolls in 2005 (starring Ewan McGregor as Sky Masterson and Douglas Hodge as Nathan Detroit), is slated to direct the film. John Goldwyn will produce with Working Title, with casting by Bernie Telsey.

Inspired by Damon Runyon's short stories, Guys and Dolls follows Nathan Detroit's plans to set up a floating crap game in a town rife with gamblers. The musical was first produced on Broadway in 1950 and earned five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
