New York City
The show is presented as a co-production with ACT – A Contemporary Theatre.
5th Avenue Theatre and ACT—A Contemporary Theatre's production of Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's Assassins begins tonight.
Taking place at a shooting gallery in a tawdry carnival, the show presents an impressive group of assassins and would-be assassins of presidents. The notorious criminals invite the audience to listen to the stories of their troubled lives and subsequent murderous deeds. At the heart of each tale is the question: How far would you go to achieve the American dream?
With music and lyrics by Sondheim and book by Wiedman, the musical is directed by ACT artistic director John Langs. The cast features Kjerstine Anderson as Emma Goldman, Nathan Brockett as Balladeer/Lee Harvey Oswald, John Coons as Guiseppe Zangara, Nick DeSantis as The Proprietor, Richard Gray as Charles Guiteau, Laura Griffith as Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, Frederick Hagreen as John Hinckley, Louis Hobson as John Wilkes Booth, Kendra Kassebaum as Sara Jane Moore, Brandon O’Neill as Leno Czolgosz, and Matt Wolfe as Samuel Byck.
Performances will run through May 8.
