The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards were handed out on Sunday, January 15 in Los Angeles and aired live on NBC. The ceremony was hosted by Ricky Gervais.
The award for Best Motion Picture, Drama went to The Descendants; The Artist was named Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical; The Adventures of Tintin was named Best Animated Feature; and A Separation was named Best Foreign Language Film. Martin Scorsese was named Best Director for Hugo,and.Woody Allen won the award for Best Screenplay for Midnight in Paris.
Awards in television included Showtime’s Homeland for Best Drama; ABC’s Modern Family for Best Comedy or Musical; and PBS’ Downton Abbey for Best Movie or Miniseries.
Performers honored for their film work included George Clooney (The Descendants), Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Christopher Plummer (The Beginners), Octavia Spencer (The Help), Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn). In addition, Madonna received the award for Best Original Song for co-writing “Masterpiece” from W.E., which she directed

Stage and screen star Morgan Freeman received the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
