9/11 Musical Come From Away to Open on Broadway

Junkyard Dog Productions has announced plans for the new musical Come From Away to open on Broadway in spring 2017. The Broadway mounting, at a theater yet to be determined, will follow productions at Washington, D.C.'s Ford's Theatre (September 2-October 9) and at an as-yet-to-be-announced Mirvish Theatre in Toronto (November 15-January 1, 2017).

Featuring a book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Come From Away is directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley (Memphis) and choreographed by Tony nominee Kelly Devine (Rocky). Set against the backdrop of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the story follows what happens when 38 planes and 6,579 passengers were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of "one small town on the edge of the world."

The musical had its world premiere in 2015 with a coproduction at La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle Repertory Theatre. The show's creative team includes scenic design by Tony winner Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Tony nominee Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Tony winner Howell Binkley, sound design by Tony nominee Gareth Owen, and music supervision by Ian Eisendrath.
