Are you jonesing for some murder-mystery musical hall ever since The Mystery of Edwin Drood closed on Broadway? Well, rejoice, because the new Steven Lutvak and Robert L. Freedman musical comedy, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, is set to play the Walter Kerr Theatre starting October 22, with an official opening November 17.

The story follows the unscrupulous Monty Navarro, who has just learned that he is ninth in line to inherit a dukedom. He sets out on a quest to off the eight heirs ahead of him (all played by Tony Award winner Jefferson Mays) in a witty and shameless musical extravaganza. Hartford StageArtistic Director Darko Tresnjak helms the production in his Broadway debut.

Mays won a 2004 Tony Award for his portrayal of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf in the solo play I Am My Own Wife, in which he also played multiple roles. He was last seen on Broadway in the recent revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder played Hartford Stage in October 2012 before a run at San Diego’s Old Globe (March 8-April 14), where Tresnjak served as the artistic director of the Shakespeare Festival from 2004 through 2009.
