A New Jersey Maltipoo Lands Broadway Appearance in Sylvia

A one-year-old Maltipoo named Alfie will serve as model for the new new Broadway production of A.R. Gurney's 1995 classic Sylvia. Alfie, cast during an open call, will serve as the canine doppelgänger for Tony Award-winner Annaleigh Ashford, who stars in the comedy as a talking dog named Sylvia. He will have his photo built into the set and revealed at the end of every performance.

Sylvia will also star Tony winners Matthew Broderick and Julie White as a couple whose marriage is torn apart by Sylvia's arrival in their lives. Robert Sella completes the company. Previews will begin October 2 at the Cort Theatre, with opening night set for October 27.

Directed by Tony winner Daniel Sullivan, the production will feature scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Ann Roth, and lighting design by Japhy Weideman.

Sylvia premiered off-Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club in a production that starred Blythe Danner as Kate, Charles Kimbrough as Greg, and Sarah Jessica Parker, Broderick's real-life wife, in the title role.
