Randy Johnson’s theatrical tribute to the late rock icon opens on Broadway this evening.
Mary Bridget Davies makes her official Broadway debut tonight at the Lyceum Theatre as legendary singer/songwriter Janis Joplin in Randy Johnson's A Night With Janis Joplin.
Tony Award nominee De'Adre Aziza (Passing Strange), Taprena Michelle Augustine (The Book of Mormon), Allison Blackwell, and Nikki Kimbrough will join Davies as Joplin's backup singers, The Joplinaires, with Kacee Clanton and Alison Cusano understudying the title role.
The production takes audiences back to the height of Joplin's short career, where the music legend herself bears her soul through signature numbers like "Piece of My Heart," "Summertime," and "Cry Baby," with fanciful interludes from a few of her musical inspirations including Nina Simone, Etta James, and Aretha Franklin.
