The York Theater Company production will transfer to an open-ended off-Broadway run.
The York Theatre Company's production of the musical comedy Desperate Measures will transfer to New World Stages this summer. Performances begin May 30, with opening night set for June 13.
With book and lyrics by Peter Kellogg and music by David Friedman, the musical premiered on October 1, 2017, at the York and ran through December 31. Bill Castellino directs and choreographs, with David Hancock Turner serving as musical director.
Desperate Measures tells the story of Johnny Blood, a handsome young man whose life is in danger over a saloon brawl. Johnny must put his fate into the hands of a colorful cast of characters including a wily sheriff, an eccentric priest, an authoritarian governor, a saloon girl gone good, and a nun out of the habit, as they all struggle to decide Johnny's fate. It is inspired by Shakespeare's Measure for Measure.
The six-member York Theatre cast included Emma Degerstedt, Gary Marachek, Lauren Molina, Conor Ryan, Peter Saide, and Nick Wyman. Full casting for the New World Stages run is still to be announced.
The production features scenic design by Jim Morgan, costume design by Nicole Wee, lighting design by Paul Miller, and sound design by Julian Evans.
