The recent Broadway production of the new musical It Shoulda Been You has been named the recipient of Actors' Equity Association's Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway Award for the 2014-15 season.

Presented by Equity’s National Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Committee, the award honors shows that exemplify and promote the union’s founding principles of diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity for all who work in the theatre.

"We’re proud to acknowledge It Shoulda Been You with the 2015 Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway Award for creating and casting a diverse array of characters that defy stereotypes," said National EEO Committee Chair Christine Toy Johnson in a statement. "The production makes social issues such as marriage equality and self-acceptance in the face of pre-existing prejudices part of the mainstream dialogue of musical theatre."

Directed by Emmy and Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce, It Shoulda Been You featured an original book and lyrics by Brian Hargrove and music by Barbara Anselmi. The musical is described as "a culture clash for the ages" that follows two families who come together to celebrate a wedding.

Tyne Daly, Harriet Harris, Sierra Boggess, David Burtka, Lisa Howard, and Edward Hibbert starred alongside Montego Glover, Josh Grisetti, Michael X. Martin, Anne L. Nathan, Nick Spangler, and Chip Zien. Daly, Howard, and Grisetti received 2015 Drama Desk Award nominations for their performances. It played its final performance at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on August 9
