My Favorite Year, Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, and Joseph Dougherty's 1992 musical based on the film of the same title, returned to New York on December 5 in a production as part of York Theatre Company 's 2014 Musicals in Mufti seires. This reimagined production, which runs through December 7, is directed by Dan Knechtges and stars Adam Chanler-Berat (Benjy Stone), Douglas Sills (Alan Swann), Rose Hemingway (K.C. Downing), Richard Kind (King Kaiser), Leslie Kritzer (Alice Miller), and Aaron Galligan-Stierle (Herb Lee). The ensemble includes Bree Branker, Joy Hermalyn, Francis Jue, Daniel Marcus, Barbara Marineau, Christine Pedi, Emily Walton, and Thom Sesma.
My Favorite Year follows young Benjy Stone, who, after landing his dream job as a writer’s assistant on the 1954 season of the King Kaiser Comedy Hour, ends up having a wild night on the town with legendary movie star and party animal Alan Swann. This production serves as the world premiere presentation of a revised version of the musicals, with a restructured book and several new songs.
