Performances of the Sholem Aleichem-inspired musical will begin next month.
East Haddam, Connecticut's Goodspeed Musicals has announced casting for its upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof. Performances begin June 27 in advance of a July 16 press opening and will run through September 7.
Based on Sholem Aleichem's Tevye the Dairyman and other tales, Fiddler on the Roof features music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Joseph Stein. Set in Tsarist Russia in 1905, the story follows Tevye, a father of five daughters who tries to maintain his family's Jewish traditions as outside forces attempt to subvert them.
Adam Heller (Elf) will lead the cast as Tevye, with Lori Wilner (The Assembled Parties) in the role of his wife, Golde. The cast will also feature Cheryl Stern (La Cage aux Folles) as Yente/Grandma Tzeitel, David Perlman (Baby It's You) as Motel, Elizabeth DeRosa (Mary Poppins) as Hodel, Barrie Kreinik as Tzeitel, Jen Brissman as Chava, Timothy Hassler as Fyedka, Abdiel Vivancos as Perchik, John Payonk (Goodspeed's The Most Happy Fella) as Lazar Wolf, Joy Del Valle (Goodspeed's Annie Get Your Gun) as Shprintze, and Allegra Rosa as Bielke. The ensemble will also include Matthew Amira, Will Burton, Michael J. Farina (Mordcha), Joy Hermalyn (Fruma Sarah), Jeremy Lawrence (Rabbi), Darren Matthias (Constable), Jeanette Minson, Curtis Schroeger, Dereck D. Seay, Charles South (Mendel), Jesse Swimm (Nacham), Eileen Tepper, and Max Chucker, as the Fiddler. The swings will be Rob Montgomery and Paige Sommerer.
Rob Ruggiero will direct, with music direction by Michael O'Flaherty, orchestrations by Dan DeLange, and assistant music direction by F. Wade Russo. The creative team will also include scenic design by Michael Schweikardt, costume design by Alejo Vietti, lighting design by John Lasiter, and sound design by Jay Hilton.
