The new musical is cowritten by Katori Hall and directed by Phyllida Lloyd.
The world premiere production of the new musical Tina, set to run in spring 2018, has tapped Tony-nominated Shuffle Along star Adrienne Warren to play its title character, Tina Turner.
Further casting will be announced later. Tina is written by Katori Hall (Our Lady of Kibeho, Hurt Village) with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, and directed by Phyllida Lloyd (the movie adaptation of Mamma Mia!). The creative team includes Anthony van Laast (choreography), Mark Thompson (set and costume design), Nicholas Skilbeck (musical supervision), Bruno Poet (lighting), Nevin Steinberg (sound), and Ethan Popp (orchestrations).
Tina will run March 21-June 16, 2018, at the Aldwych Theatre, with opening night set for April 17, 2018.
Tina is described as follows: "From humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global Queen of Rock 'n' Roll, Tina Turner didn’t just break the rules, she rewrote them. This new stage musical, presented in association with Tina Turner herself, reveals the untold story of a woman who dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race."
