Alan Menken and Newsies Cast Members to Appear on The View September 19

Composer Alan Menken will be a featured guest on the Monday, September 19 episode of ABC’s The View. He will help introduce cast members from the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Newsies, who will perform a medley of the songs “Santa Fe” and “Seize The Day,” from the show.

Featuring music by Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a new book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, Newsies is adapted for the stage from the live-action Disney feature film musical, inspired by the real life “Newsboy Strike of 1899.” The new stage version will contain both new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman as well as many that they wrote for the film, which had a screenplay by Bob Tzudiker & Noni White.

The production will run September 15-October 16, with an opening on September 25, at the Paper Mill Playhouse. Jeff Calhoun will direct, with choreography by Christopher Gattelli.

Revolutionary newsie Jack Kelly will be portrayed by Jeremy Jordan while Tony Award nominee John Dossett will play newspaper giant Joseph Pulitzer. Additional newsies will be played by Ben Fankhauser as Davey, RJ Fattori and Vincent Agnello sharing the role of Les, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie, Tommy Bracco as Spot Conlon, Brendon Stimson as Oscar Delancey, Mike Faist as Morris Delancey, Aaron J. Albano, Ryan Breslin, Kyle Coffman, Max Ehrich, JP Ferreri, Garett Hawe, Corey Hummerston, Evan Kasprzak, Andy Richardson, Scott Shedenhelm and Ryan Steele.

The cast will also feature Mark Aldrich (Seitz), Helen Anker (Medda), John E. Brady (Wiesel), Kevin Carolan (Roosevelt), Julie Foldesi (Ms. Baum), Kara Lindsay (Katherine), Stuart Marland (Snyder), Michael McArthur, Jack Scott, Nick Sullivan (Bunsen), and Laurie Veldheer (Hannah).

The creative team will include Michael Kosarin (music supervisor/vocal and incidental musicarranger), David Holcenberg (music director), Tobin Ost (scenic design), Jess Goldstein (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design), Sven Ortel (projection design), Randy Hansen (sound design), Chuck LaPointe (hair and wig design), and J. Allen Suddeth (fight director).
