Alex Brightman, James Monroe Iglehart, and More to Star in Spamalot at the Kennedy Center

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced that Monty Python's Spamalot will be the next Broadway Center Stage production coming to the Washington, DC theater. The musical takes over the slot previously occupied by Kiss of the Spider Woman and will run May 12-21 in the Eisenhower Theater.

Directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes, the production will star two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice) as Sir Lancelot, Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart (Aladdin) as King Arthur, Drama Desk Award nominee Leslie Kritzer (Beetlejuice) as Lady of the Lake, and two-time Tony Award nominee Rob McClure (Mrs. Doubtfire) as The Historian. John Bell will music direct the production, featuring the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra onstage. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

Winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical, Spamalot is inspired by the classic comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The show features music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, and book and lyrics by Eric Idle. Mike Nichols earned a Tony Award for his original direction of Spamalot on Broadway, as did Sara Ramirez for their featured performance as Lady of the Lake.

The creative team for the Kennedy Center production will include scenic and projection design by Paul Tate dePoo III, costume design by Jen Caprio, lighting design by Cory Pattak, sound design by Haley Parcher, and wig design by Tom Watson.
