Jessica Stone directs Sondheim’s musical comedy as part of the New Jersey theater’s 2015-2016 season.
Jessica Stone's acclaimed all-male production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is on the schedule for Two River Theater's 2015-2016 season in Red Bank, New Jersey.
The Stephen Sondhem-Burt Shevelove-Larry Gelbart musical will run November 13-December 13 under Stone's direction, after an original 2010 mounting at Williamstown Theatre Festival. With choreography by Denis Jones (Honeymoon in Vegas), the production will star Stone's husband, Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald (An Act of God), who reprises his role as Pseudolus from the Williamstown staging.
Kicking off the season is a revival of August Wilson's Seven Guitars, the third of Wilson's American Century Cycle plays to be revived at Two River, following its productions of Jitney and Two Trains Running. Wilson-play veteran Brandon J. Dirden (The Piano Lesson) will make his directorial debut with the drama, which is set to star his wife, Crystal Dickinson (You Can't Take It With You), as Louise and his brother, Jason Dirden (The Piano Lesson), as Canewell. It runs from September 12-October 14.
The new year will start off with Lives of Reason, a new play by Robert Rechnitz and Kenneth Stunkel, directed by Jonathan Fox. Running from January 9-February 7, the work will star John Ahlin and Maureen Silliman. Bárbara Colio's Ropes, translated by Maria Alexandria Beech and directed by Lisa Rothe, follows from February 20-March 20. Shakespeare's Pericles, with songs by Rinde Eckert and direction by David Schweizer, is the theater's springtime entry, running from April 16-May 8.
June will see Jack Cummings III's acclaimed revival of John Van Druten's I Remember Mama, featuring 10 actresses playing all 25 roles. With a cast led by Barbara Andres, who received a Drama Desk Award nomination for her performance during its New York run at The Transport Group, the play runs June 4-26. Also a children's-theater production of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are, directed by Kim Selody, will run from June 9-12.
