92NY Lyrics and Lyricists will present a tribute to singer, songwriter, pianist, composer, arranger, and civil rights activist Nina Simone with Rebel With a Cause: The Artistry and Activism of Nina Simone. Tony nominee Amber Iman (Lempicka) celebrates Simone’s legacy in this new show written by Tony-nominated playwright Jocelyn Bioh (Jaja’s African Hair Braiding).

Directed by actor, artist, and educator Reggie D. White, with musical direction and arrangements by Michael O. Mitchell, the show will include pop hits and standards like “I Put a Spell on You,” “Feeling Good,” and “My Baby Just Cares for Me” and protest anthems like “Mississippi Goddam” and “Backlash Blues.” Rebel With a Cause: The Artistry and Activism of Nina Simone runs December 7-9.

Iman made her Broadway debut playing Nina Simone in Soul Doctor in 2013. She will be joined by musicians Jeremiah Fleck on trumpet, Chala Yancy on violin and viola, Michael Thurber on bass, Sherrod Barnes on guitar, and Lonnie Christian on drums.
