The adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel is written by Kate Hamill.
The American Repertory Theater has announced casting for its upcoming production of Bedlam's Sense & Sensibility. Written by Kate Hamill, based on the novel by Jane Austen, and directed by Eric Tucker, performances will begin on December 10 and continue through January 14, 2018, with an opening on December 13.
The cast includes Bedlam's Sense & Sensibility veterans Jessica Frey as Marianne, Violeta Picayo as Margaret, and Benjamin Russell as John Willoughby and John Dashwood from the run at the Gym at Judson; Nigel Gore as Mrs. Jennings from the Sheen Center run; and Lisa Birnbaum as Mrs. Dashwood and Anne Steel, Maggie Adams McDowell as Elinor, James Patrick Nelson as Colonel Brandon, and Jamie Smithson as Edward and Robert Ferrars from the Folger Shakespeare Theatre production. Ryan Quinn plays John Middleton, and Katie Hartke plays Fanny and Lucy Steel.
The play follows the adventures (and misadventures) of the Dashwood sisters — sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne — after their sudden loss of fortune. It asks the question: "When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart?"
Bedlam artistic director Eric Tucker helms the production with choreography by Alexandra Beller, scenic design by John McDermott, lighting design by Les Dickert, costume design by Angela Huff, and sound design by Alex Neumann.
