The American Theatre Wing has announced that its upcoming annual gala, which will be held on September 15 at The Plaza Hotel, will honor Dame Angela Lansbury. Additionally, CeCe Black, Anki Leeds, and Sir Howard Stringer will serve as gala cochairs.
Lansbury has served as honorary chairman of the American Theatre Wing board of trustees since 2010. The five-time Tony Award winner's acting career has spanned theater, film, and television, with Broadway credits including Mame, Dear World, Gypsy, Sweeney Todd, Blithe Spirit, Gore Vidal's The Best Man, and many more. The actress also made television history starring as Jessica Fletcher on Murder, She Wrote, the longest-running detective drama series in TV history.
All proceeds from the American Theatre Wing gala event will benefit the theater education and artist development programs of the American Theatre Wing, which include SpringboardNYC, the Theatre Intern Group, and the National Theatre Company Grants and the Jonathan Larson Grants.
The American Theatre Wing is dedicated to advancing artistic excellence and nurturing the next generation of theater professionals and audience members.
