Karl completed the show and was then taken to a doctor.
2017 Olivier Award winner Andy Karl was injured during the Friday, April 14, performance of the new musical Groundhog Day at the August Wilson Theatre.
The production issued the following statement:
"At approximately 10:30 in the second act of Groundhog Day, during the song 'Philanthropy,' Andy Karl injured himself during the performance and left the stage. The show was stopped. Andy insisted on finishing the show and after a 15-minute break went onstage with a cane. Following the performance Andy was taken to see a doctor."
As a result of Karl's injury, the Saturday, April 15, matinee performance has been canceled. The evening performance will feature Andrew Call taking on the role of Phil Connors. Further information about the performance schedule is still to come.

It features a score by Matilda The Musical composer Tim Minchin and is directed by Matilda's Matthew Warchus, with original screenwriter Danny Rubin providing the book.
