Five-time Tony winner Angela Lansbury and five-time Tony nominee Dana Ivey will star in a staged reading of Peter Shaffer's British comedy, Lettice and Lovage as a benefit for the Acting Company. The one-night-only performance will be held on Monday, June 13, at 7pm, at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College. Patricia Conolly and original Broadway cast member Paxton Whitehead will also be featured in the cast.

Directed by Mark Lamos and produced by the Acting Company’s cofounder Margot Harley, the play tells the story of an eccentric tour guide, Lettice Douffet, who channels her flair for the dramatic into embellishing the history of dreary Fustian House. Lettice’s flights of fantasy are cut short when she encounters Lottie Schoen, a straight-laced bureaucrat from the Preservation Trust. As their animosity gives way to an unlikely friendship born of a shared enthusiasm for historical reenactments, Lettice and Lottie discover that their elaborate fantasies have unintended real-world complications. Recent alumni of the Acting Company join the production as a group of Fustian House tourists.

Lettice and Lovage premiered in London in 1987, followed by a 1990 Broadway debut, starring Maggie Smith as Lettice Douffet and Margaret Tyzack as Lottie Schoen.

The Acting Company benefit will feature lighting design by Greg MacPherson and sound design by Tim Boyce. The performance will be followed by dinner with the cast at the Union Club, 101 East 69th Street.
