Christine Andreas, Angela Lansbury, Kenny Leon, Diane Paulus, and Phylicia Rashad were among those who helped honor the accomplishments of this five-time Tony winner.

The tradition of the “Pipe Night” originated at the turn of the 20th century as an evening as a men’s cigar evening, but now celebrates artists for their contributions to the American Stage. And despite the name, pipes are now strictly forbidden!

McDonald won Tony Awards for her performances in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, A Raisin in the Sun, Master Class, Ragtime, and Carousel. Among her other stage credits are 110 in the Shade, Marie Christine, and concert stagings of Passion and Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.
