Signature Theatre has announced plans to host several free special events this spring at the Pershing Square Signature Center, including concerts, talkbacks, dance parties, and more.
Residency One playwright Suzan-Lori Parks will continue to perform with her band, Sula and the Noise, at the Signature Café Bar throughout her yearlong residency with Signature. Sula and the Noise features guitars, drums, found sounds, and original songs with an Afro-Americana vibe. The band features writer and musician Suzan-Lori Parks (aka “Sula”), guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Christian Konopka, and percussionist and actor Julian Rozzell.
The Signature Spotlight Series will present talkbacks and behind-the-scenes programs in connection with the world premiere of Annie Baker’s The Antipodes and Suzan-Lori Parks’ Venus. Baker and The Antipodes director Lila Neugebauer will participate in a free Page to Stage discussion on April 18, and playwright Suzan-Lori Parks will participate in a free Page to Stage discussion on May 4.
Signature’s Backstage Pass series continues April 26 with a discussion with one of the designers from The Antipodes, and May 25 with a discussion with Venus costume designer Emilio Sosa. Both Backstage Pass events are free and open to the public.
Signature Book Club will explore the work of playwright Annie Baker by discussing two of her previous works, The Aliens and Circle Mirror Transformation. The discussion, guided by members of Signature’s literary team, will take place on Thursday in the lobby of the Pershing Square Signature Center. Postshow talkbacks with members of the cast and creative teams will also be held at various performances of both shows.
Sig Socials are free parties at the Pershing Square Signature Center. On April 14, Signature will host Sig Socials: Karaoke, where you can pick your favorite song and sing along with friends. Then, on May 19, the venue will host Sig Socials: 80s Dance Party.
