Curtis Holbrook will take Rapp’s place opposite Idina Menzel while the former ”Rent” star recovers from surgery.
Anthony Rapp will be taking a break from his role as Lucas in Broadway's If/Then while recovering from surgery, according to published reports and the actor's own Twitter page. Rapp wrote on the social media network: "Sad 2 miss several weeks @IfThenMusical while I recover from knee surgery. Great @CurtisHolbrook will play Lucas. Can't wait 2 return soon."
As Rapp suggested, his understudy Curtis Holbrook will step into the part during Rapp's absence. Though no official statement has been made regarding Rapp's reason for surgery, he followed up on Twitter, saying: "Thanks to everyone for the get well wishes. Seems my ACL had been partially torn and finally just blew out. Fortunate to have a great ortho." The production has released no information about when Rapp is expected to return.
If/Then is described as follows: "If/Then is a contemporary new musical that follows two distinct storylines in the life of Elizabeth, a city planner who moves back to New York to restart her life in this city of infinite possibilities. When her carefully designed plans collide with the whims of fate, Elizabeth’s life splits into two parallel paths. If/Then follows both stories simultaneously as this modern woman faces the intersection of choice and chance."
Written by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, the new musical plays at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
