Artistic director Molly Smith helms the world premiere of Bob Banghart, Georgia Stitt, and John Strand’s musical, based on Eowyn Ivey’s novel.
Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announced the full cast and creative team for the world premiere of the new musical Snow Child, which will run April 13-May 20 in the Kreeger Theater. The musical features music by Bob Banghart and Georgia Stitt, lyrics by Stitt, and a book by John Strand, based on Eowyn Ivey's Pulitzer Prize-nominated novel.
The cast for Snow Child will include Matt Bogart (Jersey Boys), Christiane Noll (Ragtime), Fina Strazza (Matilda the Musical), Natalie Toro (A Tale of Two Cities), Alex Alferov (Arena’s Fiddler on the Roof), Dan Manning (Ragtime), Dorothy James (59E59's Made in China), David Landstrom (Signature's Jesus Christ Superstar), and Calvin McCullough (Olney Theatre Center's Carmen).
The creative team will include Lynn Shankel (music supervisor, orchestrations), William Yanesh (music director), Jose C. Simbulan (associate music director), Eric Wright (puppet director), Todd Rosenthal (set designer), Joseph P. Salasovich (costume designer), Kimberly Purtell (lighting designer), Roc Lee (sound designer), Shawn Duan (projection designer), Emily DeCola (puppet designer), Jocelyn Clarke (dramaturg), and Anita Maynard-Losh (text director).
Snow Child is a coproduction with the Juneau, Alaska-based Perseverance Theatre, which Molly Smith founded and ran for 19 years. It is also a part of Arena Stage's Power Plays series, an initiative commissioning and developing 25 new plays and musicals from 25 writers over the course of 10 years, focusing Washington, DC's theatrical universe on politics, ideas of America, and power.
