Not even a false fire alarm could apparently stop five-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway and a host of their famous colleagues from burning up Joe’s Pub on Tuesday, October 24.
This morning, McDonald tweeted a photo of her, Hathaway, and fellow Tony winner Linda Lavin off-stage during Perfectly Marvelous: A Night With Anne Hathaway and Friends and the songs of Cabaret.
According to reports, a fire alarm at the famed downtown venue went off around 15 minutes before the benefit show/dinner was supposed to start, causing the entire building to be evacuated. But the show did go on, with Hathaway, McDonald, Lavin, Raul Esparza, Harvey Fierstein, Darius Nichols, Bryce Pinkham, Noah Radcliffe, Eddie Redmayne, Bret Shuford, and Michael Winther performing tunes from the classic John Kander-Fred Ebb musical.
We weren’t there, but we heard that two of the concert’s biggest highlights were Hathaway and McDonald — both recent newlyweds — duetting on “Married,” and Fierstein and Lavin sharing vocal duties on “It Wouldn’t Please Me More,” although we’re not sure if a pineapple made it on stage, flambeed or otherwise.
