New Repertory Theatre, which in February announced its 2018-19 season, replaced its previously announced production of Tennessee Williams's Vieux Carré with Becoming Dr. Ruth, written by Mark St. Germain.

Becoming Dr. Ruth, now closing out the season, chronicles the life of noted psychologist Dr. Ruth Westheimer from her early years fleeing Nazi Germany to her time spent as a sniper in Jerusalem and beyond. This illuminating solo show from the author of Freud's Last Session is a humorous and heartfelt portrait detailing Dr. Ruth's incredible journey to become a pioneer in the psychology of human sexuality and the world's most famous sex therapist. Performances will run from April 27, 2019-May 19, 2019, with a press opening of April 29.

The theater, located in the Greater Boston area, has also announced that Austin Pendleton will reunite with choreographer Kelli Edwards to codirect 1776 this fall (November 30-December 23). The pair previously collaborated on a New Rep production of Fiddler on the Roof. Todd C. Gordon will music direct.

New Rep's 2018-19 season will also include Straight White Men, We Will Not Be Silent, Heartland, Still Standing, and Cardboard Piano.
