Matt de Rogatis will take on the title role.
Ruth Stage will present a new production of William Shakespeare's Richard III this summer at the 124 Bank Street Theater from August 1-19. Tony Award nominee Austin Pendleton is set to direct and Matt de Rogatis will take on the title role, with further cast and design team announcements forthcoming.
Ruth Stage's original staging of Shakespeare's greatest villain will combine portions of the text from King Henry VI Part III with portions of Richard III to create a version of this iconic play that has never been seen before. Pendleton's vision will show a unique character arc of King Richard III, most noted for his physical deformities, including a hump back, lame leg, and shriveled arm.
Austin Pendleton is a director, actor, playwright, and teacher of acting. He has directed at the Williamstown Theatre, Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre as well as on Broadway and off-Broadway.
Matt de Rogatis (Richard III) most recently played Roy in James McLure's Lone Star at the Triad Theater. He has also appeared in The Collector at 59E59 Theaters, Hamlet at the 13th Street Repertory Theatre, and more.
