Back to the Future: The Musical will kick off a national tour at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square June 11-July 7, 2024. It will continue to the Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, July 9-21. The tour will tech and play preview performances at Proctors in Schenectady, New York, June 4-6.

The announcement of a national tour is rare for a new musical that has yet to open on Broadway. The complete cast for the Broadway run of Back to the Future, which is set to begin performances at the Winter Garden on June 30, was only revealed last week. Of course, upending our traditional notions of time is what the show is all about. You can see a video of Broadway stars Roger Bart and Casey Likes announcing the tour below.

Based on the beloved 1985 sci-fi movie, Back to the Future has a book by Bob Gale, co-writer of the film trilogy, and new music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri, who composed the score for the movie series, and Glen Ballard. The score will also include hits from the film like “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode.” The show received the 2022 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Musical.

John Rando directs a creative team featuring Chris Bailey (choreography), Tim Hatley (sets and costumes), Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone (lighting), Gareth Owen (sound), Fin Ross (video), Nick Finlow (music supervision and arrangements), Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook (orchestrations), David Chase (dance arrangements), and Ted Arthur (music direction).

Casting and further tour stops have yet to be announced. You can follow developments for the national tour of Back to the Future: The Musical here.
