New York City
Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire’s show begins tonight.
Performances of Kimberly Akimbo start this evening at Barrington Stage Company.
Set in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, the show follows a teenage girl with a rare condition that causes her body to age faster than normal. Kimberly’s heartrending and hilarious journey includes troubles with her hypochondriac mother, rarely sober father, and scam-artist aunt. After they flee Secaucus under dubious circumstances, Kimberly must confront not only her own mortality, but, more terrifying yet, the chance of first love.
Lindsay-Abaire's work is directed by Rob Ruggiero, and the cast features Debra Jo Rupp in the title role, with Chris Thorn as Buddy, Jessiee Datino as Patti, Jessica Savage as Debra, and Adam Langdon as Jeff.
The creative team includes Timothy Mackabee (set design), Tricia Barsamian (costume design), Matthew Richards (lighting design), Vinnie Olivera (sound design), Paul Vella (stage manager), and McCorkle Casting Ltd. (casting).
Performances will run through July 16.
