Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery Makes World Premiere at McCarter Theatre Center

Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, by Ken Ludwig, premieres tonight at McCarter Theatre Center. Straight from its world-premiere run in Washington, D.C., Baskerville, a co-production with Arena Stage, is an adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic novel The Hound of the Baskervilles. The play is both a comedy and a murder mystery, in which five actors play all the various roles required by the script.

Written by Ken Ludwig and directed by Amanda Dehnert, the play features Gregory Wooddell as Sherlock Holmes, Lucas Hall as Doctor Watson, Stanley Bahorek as Actor One, Michael Glenn as Actor Two, and Jane Pfitsch as Actress One.

"In Baskerville, I’ve tried to stretch the genres of comedy and mystery by taking a story that plays out on a large scale—on London streets, in railway stations and on the bleak, mysterious moors of Devon—and creating it with five actors playing more than 40 roles," said playwright Ken Ludwig. "My hope is that the play will speak to the raw, creative joy of being in a live theater and telling a compelling story in a wildly new way.

The creative team includes Philip Rosenberg (light design), Jess Goldstein (costume design), Dan Ostling (set design), Joshua Horvath and Ray Nardelli (sound design), and Kurt Hall (stage manager).
