Bay Street Theatre's 2014 Season to Include Tony Nominee Richard Kind in Tom Stoppard's Travesties

Bay Street Theatre has announced the three productions of its 2014 Mainstage season, which begins May 27 and runs through August 31. The productions include a Tom Stoppard classic bookended by two world premieres.

The Mainstage season will kick off with the world premiere of Carey Crim's Conviction, which will run from May 27-June 15. The drama tells the story of Tom Hodges, a charismatic, confident, and caring teacher whom parents and children admire but who is accused of crossing a line with a student. Scott Schwartz will direct the play, which will be produced in association with the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Rubicon Theatre Company, and Dead Posh Productions.

Tony nominee Richard Kind will star in the season's second production, Travesties, from June 24-July 20. In Tom Stoppard's Tony Award-winning classic, a British consul named Henry Carr encounters some of the most famous figures of the 20th century, including James Joyce, Tristan Tzara, and Vladimir Lenin, through an amateur production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Gregory Boyd will direct.

Bay Street's season will conclude with the world premiere of My Life Is a Musical, which will run from July 29-August 31. The new musical has a book, music, and lyrics by Adam Overett and will be directed and choreographed by Marlo Hunter. The tale follows Parker, who wakes up in the morning and leaves his apartment to hear people singing and see people dancing – and no other person on earth knows this is happening. The premiere will be presented in association with Martin Platt, David Elliott, Cheryl Wiesenfeld, Joan Raffe and Jhett Tolentino, and Patrick Blake.
