The cast album will be released digitally on April 14.
Andy Karl and the cast of Groundhog Day are hard at work in the recording studio working on the cast album that, as previously reported, will be released digitally on April 14 and in retail stores on May 5. Groundhog Day is currently in performance at Broadway's August Wilson Theatre. Opening night is set for April 17.
Based on the 1993 film, Groundhog Day is the story of Phil Connors, a disgruntled big-city weatherman mysteriously stuck in small-town America reliving the same day, Groundhog Day, over and over and over again. It features a score by Matilda The Musical composer Tim Minchin, and is directed by Matlida's Matthew Warchus, with original screen writer Danny Rubin providing the book.
The cast of Groundhog Day features Andy Karl as Phil Connors, reprising the role after a successful run at the Old Vic in London last summer. Newcomer Barrett Doss (You Can’t Take It With You) stars opposite Karl as Rita Hanson.
Featured in the ensemble cast is Rebecca Faulkenberry, John Sanders, Andrew Call, Raymond J. Lee, Heather Ayers, Kevin Bernard, Gerard Canonico, Rheaume Crenshaw, Michael Fatica, Katy Geraghty, Camden Gonzales, Jordan Grubb, Taylor Iman Jones, Tari Kelly, Josh Lamon, Joseph Medeiros, Sean Montgomery, William Parry, Jenna Rubaii, Vishal Vaidya, Travis Waldschmidt, and Natalie Wisdom.
The creative team includes Peter Darling (choreography), Rob Howell (set and costume design), Christopher Nightingale (orchestrations and musical supervisor), Hugh Vanstone (lighting design), Simon Baker (sound design), Paul Kieve (illusions), Finn Caldwell (additional movement), Andrzej Goulding (video design), and Campbell Young Associates (hair and wig design). David Holcenberg is the music director.
