Beloved British Performer Alfie Boe to Return to Broadway as Les Misérables' Jean Valjean

Alfie Boe, internationally renowned English tenor and Broadway veteran, will return to the Great White Way to star as Jean Valjean in Cameron Mackintosh’s new Broadway production of Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil’s Les Misérables. Boe will begin performances at the Imperial Theatre on September 1. As previously announced, Tony Award nominee Ramin Karimloo will give his final performance in the role on August 30.

Boe made his Broadway debut as Rodolfo in Baz Luhrmann’s La Bohème, for which he and his costars received a special Tony Award in 2003 for their performances. He performed in the Les Misérables 25th Anniversary Concert at London’s O2 Arena in 2010 and played a sold-out six-month engagement as Valjean in the original West End production at the Queen’s Theatre.

Les Misérables opened at the Imperial Theatre on March 23, 2014. Featuring songs by Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schönberg, and Herbert Kretzmer, the musical is based on Victor Hugo's classic novel as well as original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, an original adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, and additional material by James Fenton.

In addition to Karimloo, the cast currently features Will Swenson as Javert, Samantha Hill as Cosette, Gavin Lee as Thénardier, Erika Henningsen as Fantine, Rachel Izen as Madame Thénardier, Brennyn Lark as Eponine, Chris McCarrell as Marius, and Wallace Smith as Enjolras.
