Benj Pasek and Justin Paul Reach EGOT Status With Only Murders in the Building Song

Songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have officially reached EGOT status.

The pair picked up a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” from Only Murders in the Building, a song they cowrote with fellow recipients Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray).

Pasek and Paul previously earned Tony Awards for Dear Evan Hansen (2017) and as producers of A Strange Loop (2022), a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album for Dear Evan Hansen (2018) and an Oscar for Best Original Song for “City of Stars” from La La Land (2017).

They became the 20th and 21st members of the exclusive EGOT club, joining songwriting predecessors Richard Rodgers, Marvin Hamlisch, Mel Brooks, Robert Lopez, Tim Rice, Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Legend, Alan Menken, and Elton John.
