New York City
The new musical, based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, is written by Duncan Sheik and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Producers have announced that the new musical adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' novel American Psycho will make its Broadway premiere this season, with previews set to begin February 19, with an official opening on March 21. The show will run at a Shubert Theatre. Benjamin Walker (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) will, as expected, lead the cast as Patrick Bateman.
American Psycho has music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik. (His Spring Awakening, which won a Tony Award for Best Musical in 2007, will hit Broadway again in the coming year.) American Psycho has a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Spiderman Turn Off the Dark) and choreography by Lynne Page (La Cage Aux Folles). Rupert Goold (King Charles III) directs.
The plot of American Psycho follows Patrick Bateman. Living the high life in 1980s Manhattan, Bateman has it all — looks, money, style and status. He and his entourage buy the most expensive designer clothes, eat at the most exclusive restaurants, and party at the hottest clubs. But privately, Patrick indulges in another kind of transgression. American Psycho had its world premiere at the Almeida Theatre in London from December 3-February 1, 2014.
In addition to Broadway roles in Inherit the Wind, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Benjamin Walker has appeared in several films, including the title role in Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, produced by Tim Burton.
