Trip Cullman directs Feiffer’s new comedy for MCC Theater.
The cast and creative team behind MCC Theater's world premiere production of Halley Feiffer's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynelogic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York met the press at their rehearsal studio on April 20. Directed by Trip Cullman, the comedy will begin performances May 19 in advance of a June 7 opening at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
The production will feature Beth Behrs (2 Broke Girls), Erik Lochtefeld (Stupid F*cking Bird), Lisa Emery (Casa Valentina), and Jacqueline Sydney (Dear Harvey). A Funny Thing Happened… features sets by Lauren Helpern, costumes by Kaye Voyce, lighting by Matthews Richards, and sound by Tony winner Darron L West.
The show is described as follows: "A foul-mouthed twentysomething comedian and a middle-aged man embroiled in a nasty divorce are brought together unexpectedly when their cancer-stricken mothers become roommates in the hospital. Together, this unlikely duo must negotiate some of life’s biggest challenges…while making some of the world’s most inappropriate jokes. Can these two very lost people learn to laugh through their pain and lean on each other when all they really want to do is run away?"
